My Resolution...

...is to learn how to sew in 2009.

What is yours?

Where will you be tonight, ringing in the New Year?

The Kiddo, T and I will be home, together, listening to the radio while we count our blessings and remember an amazing year.

I wish you much love, fun, and happiness, and I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being a friend of Marvelous Kiddo in 2008!

We Have a Winner!!!

After a bit of a delay for the Christmas Holiday, I'm back to announce the winner of the Handmade Cranberry Cowl by Abby Dennis.  The lucky name picked randomly out of the hat was Martha, who said,

"Do mothers get to play?"

Well, mom, as you can see, I decided that the answer is yes, especially when you're not only my mom, but probably my most devoted reader.  Enjoy the cowl, and thanks for a wonderful Christmas!

I'd also like to send a huge thank you to the amazing Abby Dennis, for making this giveaway possible.  I received the cowl that I ordered from her Etsy shop last week (I chose a fabulous barley color) and it has already become an indispensable piece of my winter wardrobe.  I urge you to check out Abby's shop if you haven't already!

Facebook Nurse-In TODAY!!!

To inform you about this important event, here is an excerpt from the Mothers International Lactation Campaign Facebook page:
"Facebook continues to classify breastfeeding photos as obscene content. They continue to arbitrarily remove these photos from member albums and profiles, accompanied by warnings of account termination. This is highly discriminatory and an affront to nursing mothers everywhere. In protest of this, Mothers International Lactation Campaign (M.I.L.C.) has planned a virtual day of protest.

Not only is human lactation responsible for the very survival of our species, it is in no way a sexually explicit, lewd or despicable act. It is also protected by law in most countries, including specifically the state where Facebook is headquartered in the USA.

In protest to the discriminatory and unjust policy of Facebook administration classifying breastfeeding images as obscene content, on December 27th, 2008 M.I.L.C. is asking all of you to change your profile picture for one day, to one which includes an image of a nursing mom.

This could be a picture of you or someone you know nursing a child, it could be a painting or image of a sculpture of a breastfeeding woman, it could also be a photo or image of any nursing mammal....We ask that you include the status line of "Hey Facebook, breastfeeding is not obscene!"

In addition to this 'virtual nurse-in', there will be other events planned around the globe. Please check this page often for regular updates and added information. We will also be including images that you can use for your profile picture on December 27th.

Babies everywhere thank you for your support!!!!!"
I hope that you will take a moment to participate in this online protest. While you're on Facebook, I'd love it if you'd add me as a friend! Cheers :)

South Bound

Our bags are packed and sitting by the door, and first thing in the morning we'll be headed to Mississippi to spend five days with my family.  I hope to keep up the blogging over the next few days, but just in case I become scarce around these here internet parts, I want to take this opportunity wish everyone a beautiful, love-and-joy-filled, delicious, peaceful, and safe Christmas.  May all your wishes come true!

Browsing the Union Square Christmas Market

I just thought I'd share some boisterous pops of color from our visit to the Union Square Christmas Market.  Happy five shopping days!

Kelly Rutherford Talks About Extended Breastfeeding

Kelly Rutherford, best known for playing Lily van der Woodsen in the CW teen drama Gossip Girl, is quoted in the December 29 issue of US magazine talking about breastfeeding her toddler while being pregnant with her second child.

"It's an amazing bond with your child....Some cultures do it up to five years, normally. I thought, 'Well, I'll just do it as long as it feels right for my son.'...I was thinner after my pregnancy than before, and I think a lot of it was the nursing. They say it helps your body get back to shape in a natural way."

Hooray for Kelly!  I love seeing comments like this in such mainstream publications.

Monday Cute

Today we were outside all day enjoying the unseasonably warm weather, and unwinding after a very busy couple of weeks leading up to the Our Time shows.

I've barely touched my computer today, but when I did (once, briefly, to glance at my email) I was delighted to see this photo taken of the Kiddo by my friend Ryan Millager.  It captures a moment on Saturday when we were at the theatre and the Kiddo insisted on playing with one of the prop phones onstage during the photo call.

Thanks, Ryan!

Dancing At the Museum

Well, it might not be snowing here, but it is cold and rainy.  The kind of depressing weather that makes me so thankful to live close to great museums, where we can spend the winter days warm and dry and having tons of fun.  Here's a little clip from our recent visit to the Children's Museum of Manhattan, a toddler's paradise.

Unlikely Wonderland

While we're still waiting for a noticeable snow here in New York, my home state of Mississippi turned into a veritable winter wonderland yesterday!  That's right, these photos were taken in central and southern Mississippi (it even snowed substantially in New Orleans!).

I have to say I'm a little jealous.  But not too much -- mostly I'm just happy for all the folks in Mississippi who are getting the rare experiences of making snowmen, catching snowflakes on tongues, and having snowball fights.  I mean, look at the bliss on the faces below! My mom is probably the happiest person of all.  She loves snow, and sent me the link to these photos.  See more here.  Thanks mom, and have fun!
