Wedding Fabulousness

How rad is this posse of bridesmaids? Apparently bridesmaids vibrantly expressing their own unique style is the next big thing in wedding trends. I have to say, I'm a fan. What do you think?

My Parents Were Awesome

Enough already about the super-coolness of babies and the wonders of marvelous kiddos! This fun blog celebrates the awesomeness of parents back in the day (in a completely fabulous, sweet, un-ironic way). I can't get enough of the styles! Via Have Degree Will Travel.

Pregnant Fashionistas

Two Paris Voguettes and model Jourdan Dunn are expecting, and they're still rocking Fashion Week, bellies and all! Dunn even walked for John Paul Gaultier's runway show in a custom bustier that harks back to Madonna circa Blonde Ambition. I think it's nice to see bellies cropping up amongst the high-fashion crowd -- and these three wear them well :) I can't wait to see them babywearing in a few months! What I'm Watching Now...

I know that this video has already made the blog rounds and the song is super-popular, but I've just been loving the pairing of this Grizzly Bear song, Two Weeks with footage from the classic film Le Ballon Rouge, and I can no longer resist posting it here.  It just makes me happy and gives me goosebumps.

Boho Fab: Backyard Gypsy Caravan Playhouse

I am swooning over this DIY project that was constructed using almost only materials that were recycled/found/given.  Heck, I can't believe it's a playhouse -- I would totally live there myself!  Check out the whole story here.

Street Fashion on the High Line

Style.com just posted this awesome collection of photos by Craig of the always-awesome street-style blog, Altimira.  It shows the bona-fide fashion scene that has cropped up on the High Line in the week since its opening.

When I visited the High Line earlier in the week I was as struck by the superior caliber of people-watching that was clearly possible there!  It's really fun to see that professionals are already documenting the trends and flavors that are on display at the new hot spot.  Enjoy!

Away We Go

Today, Taro and I went to see Away We Go.  We were really excited about checking out the film because of the amazing writers (Dave Eggers and Vendela Vida) and director (Sam Mendes) notto mention the incredible cast.  However, we must admit that the reason we were most anticipating the movie was that it features our niece, Isabelle Moon Alexander, in her big-screen debut!

Well, we thoroughly enjoyed the film.  We were completely entertained and touched by the story and characters and are SO SO proud of Isabelle.  There is a reason the Kiddo idolizes his cousin:  SHE ROCKS!

I have to note that one of my favorite parts of the movie involved Maggie Gyllenhaal's portrayal of an over-the-top attachment parent.  I was practically unable to catch my breath I was laughing so hard during the scenes that showed her character zealously tandem-nursing, babywearing, and bedsharing.  Her stroller-forsaking, midwife/doula invoking portrayal was a pitch-perfect caricature of self-righteous new-agey-parenting-gone-wrong.  Knowing that in real life Maggie is an enthusiastic breastfeeding, attachment-oriented mom made her hilarious sendup all the more endearing.  It's always nice to be able to laugh at yourself :)

Have you seen the movie?  What did you think?

The Belly, Week 29

Today I am 29 weeks pregnant!  I'm still feeling great and the baby is as rambunctious as ever.  The Kiddo has taken to giving me the sweetest, most adorable belly rubs while he's nursing, which just makes my heart melt and gives me hope that he's getting excited to meet the baby too :)  He even hugged and kissed my belly once last week when I said something about the baby!  That was amazing.

I am wearing a dress that I got yesterday at the Butter by Nadia sample sale.  The sale was amazing and I ended up getting several pieces that I'm really excited about.  I am just in love with the flexibility of the designs and the fact that they are so versatile that I can wear them now as well as after I've had the baby.  Here are a few more ways that I can wrap this particular dress for different looks:

The clothes are super comfy, too, with just a terrific weight and drape to the fabric.  I actually got to meet Nadia herself at the sample sale, since she was there roving around, helping customers experiment with the myriad of options contained within each dress.  She was absolutely lovely and really took a lot of time to show me all the little tricks and tips and ways to finesse the garments.

Riki and the Kiddo came too -- it was quite the outing to Red Hook -- and we all had a blast together (Riki wound up with a nice little collection of pieces too!).  I'll leave you with a shot of the Kiddo taking a break from running around the loft showroom, twirling through the rainbows of fabric:
