Kusudama Flowers

I have a feeling that if I start making these little Kusudama flowers out of post-it-notes, I will not be able to stop. What a fun and easy celebration of Spring! See the full DIY on Sensible Living.

December Photo Project, Day 2

Here are the remnants of the bouquet Taro gave me for my birthday. Last night I decided to salvage the blooms that were still looking vibrant, so I cut the stems down and put them in assorted tea tins. Remember my inspiration? I think it turned out pretty nicely!

Tuesday Pretty: Tea Tins as Table Decor

I love the charm of these flower arrangements using assorted tea tins! I actually have some tea tins from Pearl River, and this looks like a perfect way to use them...

Exploring the High Line

I found a new favorite place in the world today:  the newly-opened High Line.  It is as magical and beautiful and unique a space as I have experienced in any urban area.  I am sure that the High Line is destined to become as classic and quintessential a New York City sight as Times Square or the Empire State Building or the Statue of Liberty, only a thousand times more lovely.

My photos do not do it justice -- I ran out of batteries in my point-and-shoot shortly after arriving, and took the remaining ones on my cell phone.  I can't wait to go back and spend a day photographing the heck out of the place.

Birthday Blooms

I love a good excuse to splurge at the corner deli on some flowers for the house, and yesterday's festivities gave me just the chance I've been waiting for.  I'm in love with the peonies and hydrangeas thrown together in the top photo!  Aren't they visually delicious?!

Sunday Morning Bagels and Blooms

This morning we trekked to Broadway and 107th to visit our all-time favorite bagel shop, Absolute Bagels.  The Kiddo was seriously jonesing for his favorite combo -- a toasted pumpernickel bagel with sundried tomato cream cheese -- and as you can see, he dove right in:

Of course he had to wash the deliciousness down with a swig of oj :)

On the walk home I was captivated by the riotous colors of the tulips sitting out in front of our neighborhood flower shop.  Yay, Spring!!!

What simple life luxuries have you enjoyed this weekend?  I'd love to hear...

Just Like That

What a difference five days make.
On Monday we're witnessing quite the blizzard,
and on Saturday I'm running around the apartment flinging all the windows open
and breathing in Spring.

In between was a brutal round of teething
(fevers, sleepless nights, cranky days, lots of Netflix, and seemingly round-the-clock breastfeeding...hence no blogging!)

Today, the Kiddo has already taken off with his dad for his new favorite activity of the week, attending the Saturday Our Time workshop.  Later his grandmother (T's mom) will be picking him up for lunch and a frolic in Central Park.

As soon as I take advantage of this blissful alone time to take a relaxing shower (you know, one that lasts for maybe longer than five minutes and involves actually shaving my legs and washing my hair!) I plan to take nature's cue and get outside, sit on a park bench in the sun for a while, and perhaps stop by the corner store on the way home to get some flowers for the apartment.

I hope that you have a beautiful, fun, and restorative weekend.  What are your plans?  I'd love to know :)

Sunday Miscellany

I snapped up these three colorful silk pillow covers at a street fair today for just five bucks apiece and I couldn't resist taking a photo (shopper's high!).  The big pillow covers with dots are from a recent Ikea run...

The orchid that I bought a year and a half ago (the blossoms of which had long since been gone, leading me to entirely write it off as a goner) suddenly burst into bloom on our windowsill last week...

The Kiddo was recently caught modeling T's fancy new straw hat, to rakish effect...
