But if you just get to work, something will occur to you and something else will occur to you and somthing else that you reject will push you in another direction. Inspiration is absolutely unnecessary and somehow deceptive. You feel like you need this great idea before you can get down to work, and I find that’s almost never the case.”

December Photo Project, Day 5

Yesterday was a big day of celebration: two of the kiddos' best friends had birthdays so we shuttled around town partying it up. We all had soooooo much fun and are so grateful to have Julian (age 5) and Livia (age 2) in our lives. Happy Birthday, and lots of love, guys!

This photo is of Livia's birthday castle, which her parents made by repurposing cardboard boxes, which they joined with tape and script fasteners before painting the whole structure white. At the party all the guests got to help decorate the castle with paint, glitter, feathers, fuzzy pompoms, felt, stickers, and markers. It was way magical. The whole project was inspired by this post on Filth Wizardry, but I love that Livia's mom and dad really took the idea to the next level for their party. Now Livia has her own playhouse, made with love!

Gratitude Tree

My friend, Alysia, had a great idea for a Thanksgiving project so she invited a few moms and kiddos over to her home yesterday and we busted out the finger paints, crayons, and construction paper and got busy creating a rainbow of leaves!

The idea behind the Gratitude Tree is that at Thanksgiving dinner, each guest will write something they are grateful for on the back of one of the leaves before returning it to the branches. Thus, a bright and festive centerpiece becomes more than decoration and will also serve as the conduit for a beautiful, memorable, ritual. I love this idea!

Halloween still feels like forever away, but lately the topic of 2010 costumes has started to come up at our house nonetheless. A couple of weeks ago, J announced that this year he wanted to be a Fireman, and his (6' tall) Aunt Erin could be A Ladder. A few days later, the casting changed, and he envisioned the following:

Taro - Charlotte

W - Wilbur

J - Fern Arable

Me - Mrs. Arable

As of now, he is still into this line-up, and is also looking to cast the role of Lurvy, LOL.

Who knows who we'll end up being, but for the time being it's fun to imagine the possibilities...

Inspiration Pad

I always get writer's block the minute I get a new notebook. Something about all those pristine pages of straight lines freaks me out. I think this fun Inspiration Pad would be much more conducive to getting the creative juices flowing! And wouldn't it be fun to compose a letter on?Via Swiss Miss.

Brown Paper Packages Tied Up With String

I recently bought some Japanese masking tape from Pretty Tape, and ever since I've been having so much fun wrapping presents! I just use paper grocery bags (turned inside out), and embellish with tape, stickers, and twine.
