Erykah Badu's Twitter Homebirth

Erykah Badu's official website is reporting that the recording artist welcomed a baby daughter into the world yesterday (Sunday, February 1) with a midwife-attended home birth in Brooklyn.

Badu and her boyfriend, Jay Electronica took turns twittering the news as the birth unfolded.

To start things off, Badu tweeted, "Morning, I'm in labor."

At one point, the excited papa tweeted, “My daughter is ready. Labor has begun. Everybody stand back. No hospitals. No doctors. No medicine. We’re waiting on midwife to show up.”

Erykah’s 4 ½-year-old daughter Puma Rose was also present, as Jay went on to tweet, “I’m doing foot squeezes and foot rubs when the contractions hit. Puma is rubbing her hands.”
According to MTV.com, Electronica even typed updates about Badu's water breaking, how far along she was dilated and when she started pushing. "I see the head, full of hair," he wrote. Just over 20 minutes later, Badu gave birth.

This is Badu's third child, and Electronica's first.

Shoes For Your Sunday

I think it's because I'm pregnant. My entire fashion covetousness is directed towards shoes. How could I focus my style desires on clothes right now, when I feel I'm already starting to ooze beyond the confines of my pre-pregnancy wardrobe? In any case, I've noticed an alarming uptick in the number of fabulous shoe photos I've been snagging from my recent internet wanderings.

MIA Plans Home Birth

Hip Hop artist (and one of my personal faves) MIA is profiled in today's online edition of The Wall Street Journal, where she talks about her plans to have a home birth!

Due on Grammy night (she's been nominated for both an Oscar and a Grammy this year), MIA muses about the prospect of going into labor at the event:
We're planning a home birth, but it might be a Grammy birth! Eating a hot curry could make me go into labor, so imagine what getting on stage with Jay-Z, Lil Wayne and T.I. would do. Everyone's been very understanding.
I've been watching and admiring this woman's totally rad pregnant style for months.  I can't wait to see how awesome she looks as she performs center stage at full term.  Inspirational!

Tea Love

One of thing that has been getting a lot of play in our home recently (what with the frigid temperatures outside and my lolling about inside) is hot tea.  Sleepytime tea, with a spoon-full of honey, to be exact. Turns out the Kiddo even likes to drink it, and can barely contain himself while it cools down to a palatable temperature.  Well, imagine my delight when I discovered these genius little teacups on Double Takes.  Aren't they just cozy-cute perfection?

Sweet Photos

I'm totally loving the photography of John Kernick, whose work I just discovered over at The Bedlam of Beefy.  Aren't his shots so sweet and lovely?  The last three have me yearning for summer...
