Vacation

We are San Francisco-bound!  I look forward to posting lots of photos and stories upon my return.  Meanwhile, have a marvelous week...

Every Marriage is a Courtroom

I just watched this great little film over at my friend Joanna's new blog, Smitten.  I totally identify with the character of the husband, actually.  In our relationship, I'm the one who is prone to exaggeration and miss-rememberings!

Find of the Day

Limited Edition "La La Girls" notecards, featuring fabulous 1920's chorus girl costume illustrations by the legendary Bonnie Cashin.

Stylish Babywearing in New York Magazine

One of my favorite fashion features is New York Magazine's The Look Book, in which each week an interestingly self-styled person is culled from the bustling streets of the city, photographed grandly and interviewed about their sartorial choices.  Well, behold this week's subject, the fabulous Molly Findlay and her adorable five-month-old Isadora, who is being worn (in my favorite carrier of the moment) the Ergo.  I kind of love that babywearing doesn't even come up in the Q&A -- Findlay is really being featured for her overall great style and vibe and she just happens to be toting a infant!  Read the piece here.  Via {Frolic}.

While you're at it, see my friend Gaby Basora, another Amazing Mom of Great Personal Style, who was featured in The Look Book in 2005.

Morning Fashion Muse

Lately, I've been enjoying the blog Sally Jane Vintage.  The author has a fondness for vintage clothing, thrift shopping, and bargain-hunting and she routinely posts the most adorable outfits -- impeccably styled, modeled and photographed.  Better yet, she has an Ebay store, so many of the pieces she shows on her blog end up for sale only days later!  I just love the vintage high-waisted jeans and suspenders she's rocking on today's entry.

It'll Be Here Before You Know It

Ok, ok, so I realize that it is not yet even September.

However, now that I have a little kid I am more eagerly awaiting the fun of Halloween than ever before.  I am embarrassed to say that last year I let the whole thing get away from me and I ended up grabbing an already-on-sale baby jack-o-lantern suit from Old Navy at the last minute.  I managed to briefly stuff the the then-four-month-old Kiddo into that puffy orange Ode to Unimaginativeness, only to have him crying to get out within minutes.  Before he emerged, I managed to snap one photo, although in it the Kiddo's face wears the classic, "if looks could kill" expression.

This year, I have rather grand ambitions of fashioning an original, clever costume from scratch, and I admit, I have been casting about for inspiration.  Well, imagine my delight at the sight of this creation, called the Kidbot:

Fantastic, no?  If only I could envision the Kiddo being fine with wearing it!  See more ideas here.

Opening Tonight!

My Wire Couture sculpture is featured in a group show entitled "With Wit and Style" opening tonight at Simie Maryles Gallery in Provincetown, Massachusetts.  Preview all the pieces here, or stop by the gallery from 7-10 pm for the reception! (435 Commercial Street, Provincetown).

San Francisco Recommendations?

Speaking of San Francisco, we're actually headed there next week for our family vacation.  It will be the first time that just the three of us have explored a new place together!  Which brings me to my question, dear readers:  Do you have any tips or recommendations of things we should check out, food we should eat, places we should shop (etc. etc.) while we're there?  I would love to know!

Meanwhile, check out Hula Seventy's poetically beautiful photo blog of a recent trip to San Francisco, here (the photo above is from the collection).

Beautiful Fridas

A recent San Francisco casting-call sought Frida Kahlo look-alikes for a set of tableaux vivants of Kahlo’s works.  Here are some of the gorgeous results, found here.  If I had been in San Francisco, I so would have been there!

Soopascarf

I know it's still August and perhaps this attraction has been hastened because I'm on camp-induced summertime overload, but I just cannot get this gorgeous piece out of my mind:

Home Sweet Home

Right now:

I'm lying in bed relishing being home, and being alone!  The boys are at the playground, bless their hearts.

It was an incredible, beautiful, life-transforming week of camp and I am so happy and proud of my husband for finally realizing his dream of creating this program.

That being said, the last ten days were completely exhausting!  It was definitely a challenge to manage on my own with the Kiddo around the clock in unfamiliar surroundings while T was consumed with work.  To make things more heavy, there was serious Kiddo teething going on, I came down with a miserable cold, and I was without my daily dose of the New York Times!

I feel all better now, and a couple of days being home and getting a chance to rest has been great.  I also look forward to getting back into my regular blogging groove.  I have missed it.

Thanks for staying tuned!  I'll post some goodies soon..

Karaoke Kiddo

Last night the official Camp Our Time activity was Karaoke, and while the hosts were getting things set up the Kiddo and his dad took the stage for a little impromptu beat-boxing.  I can't resist posting the footage:

Not Very Neighborly News

I just learned that PBS has decided to stop transmitting Mr. Rogers Neighborhood to local stations as part of their daily syndicated line-up of programming!  Instead, stations will be provided with one episode each weekend.

I don't even have a TV and this still strikes me as tantamount to sacrilege!  You can find out more about this sad turn of events and join in the crusade to save Mister Rogers here.

Below, watch a moving clip of Fred Rogers defending PBS before the US Senate back in 1969.  I love how he speaks so beautifully about "the inner drama of childhood."  This will give you goosebumps:

On the Street With the Kiddo

The Kiddo and I went for a walk along 125th street in Harlem today.  Here are some of the people and things we saw...
