The Belly, Week 27

I can't believe I'm 27 weeks along now and basically entering my third trimester already!  I am loving being pregnant in the beautiful springtime weather, and it has been fun to get a couple of new outfits to fit my expanding figure and the warmer temperatures.  This is one of my favorite new pieces, perhaps you remember it?  It is so comfy and bright and I feel like quite the mama goddess when I'm wearing it :)

Make Art Not War

I love this poster featuring art by Shepard Fairey, which can be purchased here for only $15!  I originally spotted it in in this photo of a super-fab apartment located an hour east of London which was decorated from top to bottom on a shoestring.  Check out the entire slideshow with all of the creative details, here.  Meanwhile, I'll be ordering that poster!

Beautiful Adoption Story

This piece from the ongoing New York Times series One in 8 Million really took my breath away when I read it today.  Click here to listen to the amazing and moving story and see the beautiful  accompanying photos by Todd Heisler.

Shades of Cuteness

Quilt Cool

How beautiful and original and smart is this idea for a quilt?  Soft-Map Quilts, by Emily Fischer, are geographically-accurate, functional quilts stitched with the detailed outline of Brooklyn neighborhoods, complete with hand-embroidered street names, a compass rose and a scale marker.  The artist will also do custom versions to-order to reflect your own town or neighborhood.  Read more here.  Via Coolhunting.

Swimsuit Season Meets Belly Season

Since I'm not due until the end of August, my thoughts are starting to turn towards what I'll wear if and when I go to the beach this summer!  I've been looking around online and these are a few of the swimsuits I'm considering. Which is your favorite?

(From top)

1.  Twist Tankini from Isabella Oliver.

2.  Golden Mary Swimsuit from Bella Blu.

3.  Solid Eggplant suit from Modbe (not shown on a pregnant model, but marketed as a suit that will work for maternity because of the extra length of the top and the forgiving side ruching).

4.  Prego Black Solid Sweetheart Tankini from Pickles and Ice Cream.

5.  Carnival Flutter Halterkini from Tummystyle.

6.  Halter Maternity Tankini from A Pea in The Pod.

7.  Prego Black Dot Bikini from Tummy Style.

Only in New York

I just had to share the images I snagged yesterday when we happened to be walking through Times Square.  I love New York!

Birthday Fun

Thursday morning got off to a fun birthday start when I made breakfast in bed (buttermilk pancakes, fruit, scrambled eggs and O.J.) for my boys.

After chillin' in the bed for a while and opening presents, we went out for a stroll, and ended up relaxing in Madison Square Park.  It was a magnificent day and all the benches were full, so Taro and the Kiddo relaxed beside the fountain.

A little while later we met up with Taro's mom, Riki, who treated us to lunch at one of our favorite restaurants, Peryali.

After our wonderful meal (and more presents!) we went home for a while before Taro and I departed for our evening activity:  attending a performance of HAIR on Broadway!

We had excellent seats, and the show was fantastic, so we had a blast!  We even ran into a friend of ours during intermission who assisted with costume design on the show, and he gave me lots of fun behind-the-scenes info about what it was like assembling the incredibly groovy outfits for the show :)

Once home for the night, Taro had one last birthday hurrah by blowing out candles in a tiny little two-person Haagen Daz coffee ice cream cake, which was soooo yummy!  Yay for birthdays!!!

Birthday

Today is Taro's birthday, and we have a day of celebrations and surprises lined up, so I won't be able to post again.  Stop by tomorrow for an update on the "layahs"!  It's going to be fun...

XOXO, Leigh

PS:  Speaking of birthdays, remember what my hubby did for mine?  Read here and here for old time's sake!  (Plus: colors, flavors, atmosphere, yum, and more).

Breastfeeding on the Colbert Report

I recently saw this segment (which originally aired last year) on the Motherwear Breastfeeding Blog.  I had to watch it several times and every time I had a hard time breathing I was laughing so hard.  Enjoy:

Six Hundred

This is my six-hundredth blog post, and I just wanted to pause to say "thank you" to all my readers.  It has been such a pleasure to connect with you over the last year and a half of blogging.  I value every comment and email, and even though I may not always get around to a timely response I want you to know that your words mean the world to me.  I feel very blessed to have discovered so many kindred spirits and new friends through this little piece of internet real estate!  Thanks for finding and becoming a part of Marvelous Kiddo :)

Date Night Yum

Last night Taro surprised me with a belated Mother's Day treat:  Dinner at a new restaurant!  After researching online (for the "most romantic" restaurants) he honed in on the lovely August, located on our favorite street in New York, Bleecker.  We arrived before the dinner crowd, so we had the lovely glass-covered courtyard all to ourselves -- it was indeed romantic.  The food was delicious (especially the profiteroles we shared for dessert!) and it was really fun to explore a new place together.

What did you do this weekend?
