Epic Return...
This photo was taken on Sunday, when the Kiddo and I were en route to NYC via Atlanta. After we boarded the plane, we were stranded for over FOUR HOURS on the tarmac before we were cleared for takeoff! Now that's no picnic under any conditions, but -- trust me -- with a toddler you can multiply the exhausting-ness by a thousand. All in all, the Kiddo was a champ...I was so proud of his stamina and relative lack of meltdowny-restlessness. Nonetheless, we are still recovering...and glad to be home.

Mississippi Art, Fabric-Lover's Paradise, an Afternoon Drive, and Two Feasts
We got the day off to a super-fun start by heading over to the Mississippi Museum of Art to catch an 11 am performance of The Princess and the Pea, presented by the Mississippi Puppetry Guild...
After the show, the Kiddo, Mamaw and Papaw and I rambled around the galleries of the Museum, taking in the impressive collection...
...which includes a gorgeous piece by Sam Gilliam...
...and one of my childhood favorites, a sculpture of a sleeping woman by John DeAndrea:
Afterwards, we headed over to Penn's Catfish for a deliciously artery-clogging lunch buffet extravaganza...
Between the sweet tea (free unlimited refills!), hush puppies, creamed corn, cole slaw, catfish, and (yes!) peach cobbler, I was in heaven. It's not a diet that one can healthily subsist on, but boy, one of these meals every once in a blue moon does a body good!
Once we were done with the feast, we visited a nearbystore called Quilt Arts, which stocks an astonishingly beautiful array of fabrics and quilting supplies. I was drooling over the fabulous poufs covered in Amy Butler fabric as soon as we walked in...
On one side of the store there was this incredible computer/sewing machine that was whirring along, automatically stitching an already-pieced quilt, creating a shocking and fascinating juxtaposition of homeyness and technology...
More of the store...
The Kiddo getting excited by the quilting literature...
After a short break back at my parent's house, we piled back into the car and took a drive down Highway 49 to visit dear old friends in my hometown of Star. Here's Dad at the wheel and the Kiddo, who finally konked out in his car seat...
and some of the scenery...
And finally, a perfect end to a wonderful day, a delicious gourmet vegetarian meal followed by music, singing, and dancing...
Thank you, Gerald, Kathleen, Elizabeth and Dag!

adventure / visit
This morning the Kiddo and I got on a plane and headed to my parent's house in Mississippi for a long-overdue visit. T is spending the latter part of this week out of town on work, so we thought this would be an ideal time for the Kiddo and me to get out of the city and have a little adventure of our own.
This is the first time that the Kiddo has been to the town where I grew up, and there are many things to do and people to see! After we arrived this afternoon, we got straight to the important things: eating some home-cooked vegetarian soul food, playing our hearts out on my old baby grand piano, taking a dip in the kiddie pool, and napping.
My parent's little house is not the one I grew up in (they've only lived here for a few years) but I absolutely love it! It is so cozy and sweet -- a perfect grandparent's pad. Here are some photos of the place, and the Kiddo having a time in it...
...more to come...
