"Lights, Camera, Contraction"

Click here to read a terrific piece in the New York Times that examines the growing phenomenon of people posting their birth videos on YouTube.  The article focuses on people who had home births or are planning them, and talked about the ways in which the medium of video on the internet is helping to reframe the way women in general educate themselves about childbirth.  

The story also contains a link to a series nine of YouTube videos posted by Sarah Griffith of Atlanta, showing the home water birth of her son.  The videos have been viewed more than three million times.

I found this story and the accompanying comment thread to be really interesting and encouraging, in that it seems to illustrate a growing interest in seeking out information on what birth is really like, instead of relying on negative assumptions created by hollywood cliches.
